Preparing for your First Medical Role

Are you an AMA Student Member? Are you ready to start getting organised for your first medical role? Would you benefit from direction about gaining experiences and collating a portfolio of documents that will position you well for future applications?

During medical school is the ideal time to begin preparing a portfolio of evidence to support your first medical role application.

You will need a CV to present before or after internship, depending on which state or territory you are planning to start working in.

This module provides information about what’s needed for application processes in each Australian state and territory. For example, some roles have a prescribed CV to be used, such as intern application through the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria and some House Medical Officer 2 applications (Victoria).

The module includes insightful advice to consider during the early stage of your career (medical school and your first years as a junior doctor) – that understanding processes and requirements involved with specialty training application is critical, so that you don’t get blindsided by the realisation that you could and should have done more during this career stage.
